The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons presents these data to help patients make educated decisions about their cancer care. The data include the number and percent of cancer cases diagnosed by body part and American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage (Stage I, II, III, IV, not applicable or stageable, and unknown). Choosing a treatment center:
Many people might assume that the best place to have their treatment is in a hospital that has treated the largest number of patients with a similar medical situation. However, this decision is complex because there are many factors that influence the number of patients seen at a hospital, and the number of patients does not necessarily reflect the quality of care provided by a hospital. Some things that affect the numbers include, but are not limited to, where the patients live, their socioeconomic status, their disease type and severity at diagnosis, and the experience of the doctors, nurses, and other health care workers caring for the patient. Be sure to consult with your cancer care team before deciding on your personal course of action.

Good Samaritan Hospital is a 192 bed Community Cancer Program that has been providing quality cancer care to patients since 1977. Good Samaritan Hospital has been accredited by Commission on Cancer since 1979.
MISSION STATEMENT: Provide excellent health care and promote healing through trusting relationships. VISION STATEMENT: To be recognized as the regional center of excellence for health care. GSH received with the 2010 ACoS CoC Survey the 3 Year Accrediation Award(Program approved through 2013) with Commendation in eight areas of the 36 Standards set forth. GSH CoC-accrediated Cancer Program also received the CoC Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA) as a result of the 2010 successful survey. GSH Cancer Liaison Physician (CLP) received the CoC Outstanding Performance Award in 2010.
